BOO!

Sorry didn't mean to scare you just thought I would spring up and surprise you! OK I am bored. My back is being horrid to me and I am laid up again... HAVE YOU SEEN THE WEATHER? It is wonderful and I am stuck inside unless I grab my walking stick and hobble outside. But on a much, much happier note I have a few things keeping me happy and of course the main thing making me smile in such miserable times is my faithful hook and yarn.

I completed my baby blanket which I am thrilled with and have blogged about. I now have about a squillion Wips that really need some attention so I am glad to have the time(without guilt about abandoning the housework) to get some things finished. I recently took part in what I think is a wonderful, inspirational idea which is a group of ladies led by a lady called Sue who are collecting crocheted squares from all over the world(SIBOL) to turn into blankets which they then donate. I loved taking part and will be doing more in the future. They have some wonderful ideas for blankets and are making each challenge a lot of fun. 
 These were for one of the sunshine blankets. I can't wait to send some more.

In other news I have been splurging...Again! I can't help it especially when thing are excellent value
I did try and get a pic of my new things without bugs help but he insisted that all these items needed to be on the floor!
I bought the cupcake book solely because I have a true passion for cupcakes and it came with the cutest cases. The question and answer book is for my 8 year old who has a question for every minute of every day I am sure, so this book hopefully will become one of my firm friends, and Matilda is just the bedtime story we are all sharing at the moment(that is when the boys are beating each other to pulps and therefore getting sent straight to bed).

Isn't this sooooo cute? My friend spotted them in a very cheap bookstore for a staggering £3!!! I had to have it, it is just the perfect size for carrying my crochet things and bobs in rather than my knitting bag.
I think it is just fab lol and even better because it was a BARGAIN!  

I have a busy week ahead of me, which I am quite looking forward to. The man of the house is taking a week off to sort out the attic and start packing all the things we want but don't see into neat boxes ready to go when we move(if we move!), we will also be sorting out everything that needs to go to Freecycle and the charity shops. My eldest 2 boys are part of a local Taekwon do team and are doing really well. I am secretary of the committee which we have now had to form to start raising funds for the group and our first fundraiser, a coffee morning is taking place next Wednesday which despite the fact I have a lot of baking to do for it(hopefully I will get the chance to try one of my new cupcake recipes) I am really looking forward to. I hope to blog a lot more frequently than I have been but I can't make any promises as I have a lot of hooking to do too ;)

Sleepy Saturday

Today when I woke up I just wanted crochet. Wanted to feel the cool metal and sumptuous soft yarn in my fingers, and luckily for me as you may be aware I have quite a few projects on the go that require my attention so I picked up the baby blanket once more and began right in the bed, with Bug beside me helping all he could...
I will finish this soon. I had to buy more yarn for it yesterday so it is confirmed that I underestimated how many balls I would need. Looks like it will be 12-14. I am using a cotton blend yarn which is so soft and practical as it can be washed and tumble dried, just right for baby.  

A little peek into my knitting bag(not that I do much knitting these days).

My buttons tin, I could go crazy with buttons, especially when the sewing machine comes out but I hold myself back and just get a few at a time. I love them, they are so much fun.

   My bug is a lovely, helpful Bug, who shares Mummies joy of crochet x

New things

 

Well hello again, my goodies arrived today YAY! I am SOOO happy. 

 

 

Don't you think they're wonderful??? I feel so lucky. All the newbies to the house are squished into the nursery at the moment until we can wangle some room for them, I think that the chair and Ottoman will have to wait until we get our new home(if we get a new home!) for some attention.

haven't got much time tonight as I have to get on with the little baby blanket that I am happily rippling away with and I also have another lovely crochet book to delve into that arrived courtesy of Royal mail this afternoon(whatever happened to morning mail???) and also some magazines that I treated myself to today as it is a new month and there is something so special about grabbing an hour in the afternoon when the bug is napping and allowing myself to fall deeply into the pages allowing myself to absorb the pictures and words completely, allowing my dreams of one day owning such a wonderful home a little play time.

 

I have a very busy few days ahead of me really as it is my little Sisters 5th Birthday and I have been informed by the Father that I will be holding a little tea party for her! Thank you Dad... So I suppose I should spend the next few days in the kitchen and try and make this last minute party a pretty little girly tea party. 

So off to start the next few days, hope you are all well :)

Hello there well as you might have guessed from the title of this blog I am very happy today and why is this I hear you ask? Well as you might appreciate my joy today has come with the consequence of an empty purse and abuse of the bank card, but there is not much guilt following this (unexpected) spending spree as I have some fabulous purchases!

 I went out today with the intention of buying the yarn that I needed and only yarn but as ALWAYS happens with me the other shops along the way pull me in and today the pull was from the British Heart Foundation  furniture store. This place is an Aladdin's cavern of fabulous bargains and of course the more I spend the more the charity gets so :)

I only went in there to browse(of course) but they actually had a sale on wardrobes and the fella and I had been eyeing one up in there for a while, a 1940ish gentlemans wardrobe, so the sale was the clincher(it was reduced to £17.50), but then I found an original Ottoman and a wonderful Lloyd loom chair for £10 each I was so happy I was bouncing around like Tigger and the sales assistant laughing asked me if I would like to put the sold stickers on myself "yes I would, YIPEE!" Oh soooooo happy. It is not everyday you find such beautiful things, but how lucky was I to get them from a charity store??? I know my giddiness for such things may seem silly but wait until you see them(photos tomorrow after they are delivered) You are sure to understand my excitement hehe! I can't stop smiling.

So the point of venturing to the shops today was yarn, I am making a baby blanket for my friend to give as a gift and as her funds are fairly limited but she wants a blanket with a nice quality for the baby I have bought a cotton blend yarn and I must say it is delightful to work with, it is still not as affordable as acrylic but is much more affordable than my usual yarn. I don't think any yarn is off limits it depends what the project calls for, I am of course still learning and what an adventure I am having, learning about yarn, its different textures, colours, uses, durability etc it is just incredible how such a simple pleasure has made such a massive difference in my life I LOVE IT xxxx

HAPPY EASTER

 

Hello there my lovely blogger friends. It is Easter Sunday and although the sun is shining and the flowers have all opened up and are making me very happy I am a little sad today... 

I am sat here with bug and it is in fact just the two of us today...alone! The fella has been told to work ALL day(he is a chef so it kinda goes with the territory) so I wont see him until midnight tonight and the bigger boys are with their Dad(I was married previously...) So for the first time since I can remember I am spending Easter Sunday all by myself, well with bug but I somehow think he isn't going to help me cook a roast followed by Eastery films, although he will certainly help me eat anything I cook or bake ;).

But on the up side like I mentioned the flowers are blooming, the sun is shining and without all the usual distractions I can spend this glorious day in my pj's catching up on some happy hooky hours...

I hope you all are enjoying a wonderful Easter and not getting too sick on all the chocolate that is out there!

Hello there everyone, well today is not the best for weather and I have to say I didn't wake up with a smile when I heard the wind howling and saw the rain pouring as soon as my eyes opened. My mood wasn't lifted when my back let me know immediately that it was not happy and was going to be trouble today and I realised the mess that was everywhere and my flowers were all dead! 

I decided that the first priority of the day was to get some life into the home and flowers I think are the easiest and nicest way to do this, so despite the freezing-is it hail or snow-weather we donned our wellies and headed to the local shops.

Already everything is lovelier and brighter...HAPPY X 

I think I have mentioned before that there is not much in the way of choice at our local shops but you can generally pick up what you need which is what matters really. They do have a green grocers that sells a large variety of plants and flowers which is exactly what I needed today. 

A few drops of rain still linger from the soaking we all got.  

I picked up 4 bunches of closed daffs the flower of choice in spring when pennies are scarce and you need a happy, sunny boost in the home. I also got some tulips which I adore, roses and carnations. 

Look at that weather behind my bright bouquet :) 

As you can probably tell I was serious about the flowers today and knew that just 1 or 2 bunches just wouldn't be enough to make my heart all light and springy again. So they were cut, felt, admired individually for their textures and colours and placed lovingly(not the best at arranging but there is always love) in a couple of vases...Result:: Me happier, much happier.

Once the flowers had been placed it gave me the boost I needed to help tackle the housekeeping issues. I say help because the fella is being extra nice today and taking on a majority of the chores, he is not a 'new' man but a rough around the edges kinda guy with a big heart, and today he has been my hero. It is one of the hardest things for me trying to come to terms with my back and hip problems and I can get very down and I sometimes bring the whole household down with me, but there he always is my own personal Noah, supporting me, guiding me, fighting me but most importantly loving me despite how hard it sometimes is. 

So now the chores are done, the home is cosy once more and because of all the help I have had today I can concentrate on the blanket I am crocheting for my Niece. I must say it is yummy working with all the girly colours, having four boys can mean I don't see pinks, purples or pretty teals for AGES! So I am making the most of it especially as I have been asked to make a baby blanket for a boy so I will be back to blues very soon...

Oh did you catch that??? I have been asked to make a blanket...for somebody else...as a gift...Already!

I am SOOO excited WOOOOOOHOOOOO...Can you tell? It is a real boost and just confirms that I am doing the right thing devoting every spare second to crochet and crafts, learning as much as possible from all the lovely people in the land of Blog...and I am LOVING every second.

Now I must fly as I have a very important date with some yummy oatie cookies(blogged ) and a hot cup of tea.Take care xxxxx

Awwww in all fairness I am kinda sad to see March go as it was a WONDERFUL month for me and my little family. We have been through it somewhat since before Christmas with redundancies, sickness, bipolar, illness, bipolar again, cut hours... it was all getting too much then March arrived and as the daffodils struggle to bloom was finally over it seemed so was ours. The sun started shining and everything was simply perfect, a whole lot of lovely has been injected into our home and our hearts. Oh and of course I started blogging, don't want to forget that hehe!

Monday Madness...

Hey there people, well today I am feeling a little worse for wear due to the fact one of my bestest buddies came to see me yesterday and decided we should go to the pub which I have to say was a very cool plan as when we arrived at said pub we were delighted to find a jazz band playing and this made me doubly happy and smiley as I am hoping to book them for my approaching wedding :) So HAPPY! I have been searching everywhere and just couldn't find what I was looking for and then there they were, not very often I achieve anything by going to the pub other than a hangover :S

 

So I have been yarn shopping again, I realised that I needed more balls and colours for my super, duper huge ripply blanket. It is so nice to have a real reason to buy wool, means the fella can't moan too much about the expense!!! It has been a lovely day, We left the kiddies with my fabulous fella and my friend and I went for lunch and a yummy coffee and cake mmmm. I always find shopping with girlfriends much more enjoyable and boy did we giggle like teenagers hehe...do we ever really grow up? I think there will always be a big kid in me and I am going to let it out at every opportunity I get.

  My ripply is coming along nicely and is a real pleasure to crochet, working the colours and getting in as many happy hooky hours as possible is what I am living for at the moment. It is so much FUN! I LOVE IT. I can't put into words my total obsession and passion for this project, I feel if I get any happier I will actually burst. 

I am sooo in love with my ever expanding yarn collection and sometimes just sit admiring it thinking about all the lovely things that it is going to be turned into and all the smiles it is going to put on peoples faces when they are given woolly gifts. It does make me realise though that I am fast running out of room and have to slow down the purchasing... I am going now to get hooky and have a lovely peaceful family evening watching films and eating popcorn YAY! xxxxx

Smiley times

I often here the phrase 'In my day' or the phrase 'why, when we were your age' and these are usually expressions used when referring to the amount of hard work done by our Mothers/Grandmothers generations. They remind us that they never had modern technology to 'do the work for them' but on reflection I have come to the conclusion that the modern Mother has the same if not(dare I say it) more work to do. Granted they did not have the revolutionary aids which we today take for granted but they didn't have school projects!!! You know what I mean when you plan your evening, a home cooked meal, some baking, reading and playing and your children with smiles on their innocent little faces inform you that they need the Taj Mahal, Mona Lisa or maybe even the town they live in brought to life with the materials you own in the small craft box at the end of their bed! Well todays gem was the obligatory Easter bonnet and an Easter garden! Well thankfully we do have freezers so I could grab something I had frozen last week to heat whilst I frantically try to 'help' create something decent whilst my baby cries and my older boys between cutting paper and smearing glue all over themselves chase the cat with a random piece of ribbon they have discovered! It was exhausting but I hope you will agree well worth the mess and hassle...

Easter garden??? I mean what does a garden look like at Easter??? I wanted Daffs but J was too lazy to make them...

So that was my afternoon and early evening taken care of and I must say it really did wear me out what with dinner and baby to deal with as well but we had fun and that is most definitely the main thing and I don't take advantage of any moments I can spend having fun with my fellas. So after such an eventful time I needed some me time and with kids in bed and all the dutiful housewife duties complete it is time to take out the yarn and have some hooky fun...

Yes that is right I am embarking on some ripply fun YAY! And it is courtesy of Lucy at Attic24. So I am going to continue to snuggle into my fluffiest blanket with a cuppa and my hook and yarn :) Night friends x
